File Renamer Help

Main Window Explained

Folder - This is the current path File Renamer is looking for files to list for renaming

Copy To - This is where you specify where files will be copied or moved to after a renaming operation has completed (if enabled using the enable checkbox to the right of the input)

Rename Files or Folders - If Files is selected, File Renamer will only show the files, not the folders, in a directory. If the Folders option is selected, then only the folders will be displayed for renaming purposes, the files will be ignored in this mode.

Copy / Move - If you click the Enable checkbox, then after a rename has completed, the files will be copied or moved to the Copy To location specified. A Copy will copy a file leaving the original in it's current directory, so you will end up with two files, the original and the new one copied. The move option will move the file from the current location to the new location leaving you with only one file.

Filename Filter - This lets you specify what to search for. To show all files, you would use the wildcard *.*, if you wanted to search for only mp3 files, you would enter *.mp3, all jpegs would have an entry *.jpg.

Thumbnails - When this checkbox is checked, all files in the main File Renamer window will be shown as a thumbnail if one exists. If no thumbnail can be determined for the file, then the file isn't shown. This is ideal for pictures or videos to see a thumbanil of them so you can selected them and rename them. To exit thumbnail mode, simply uncheck the Thumbnail checkbox.

Start - This option specifies where in the current list of files to start the selected files. The normal start is 1, so the first file is selected. In the picture below, I've changed the Start value to 3, if you notice, the checked items starts with the third entry.

Step - Step specifies the number of files to go before selecting again. This value is normally set at 1 so that every file is checked. If, however, you wanted to select every other file, you could set the 'step' to 2 which is shown on the following picture. As you can see, every other file is selected. In the following picture, start is also set at 2, so with both set and start at 2, it starts with the second file, and then skips over every other one.
